dc.description.abstract In this paper, a new system for surface water monitoring is presented. The main concept of the design is a device capable of warning the Guelph water treatment facility of possible surface water contamination events in real-time. The design consists of a buoy equipped with a sensor array designed to detect indicating factors of water contamination. It is capable of warning Guelph water treatment facility of possible dangers to the local drinking water supply immediately by SMS text message. The analysis of the final design shows that it will be effective in its intended purpose. en
